It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague Martin Whelan. Martin was one of the Directors of Cashbook and the Chief Technical Officer for over 20 years. He is one of the main reasons why Cashbook is a successful company today. Martin was a larger than life character with a unique personality. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting Martin then you would long remember him after your encounter. A friendly, fun-loving person with an infectious laugh and such a quick sense of humour.
As Chief Technical Officer of Cashbook, Martin oversaw the initial development of our core financial product suite. His vast technical knowledge and skill, combined with his leadership of the technical and development team contributed to this significant company milestone. Their long journey started off as creative ideas way back in 2002, each piece of software was delivered in sequence until the completion of the final core product by 2010. Dedication, skill, sacrifice, bravery and teamwork were all qualities shown by Martin and his team to achieve their goals. Today, those products are being used in multiple companies, industries, and countries all over the world.
Over the years, Martin helped to deepen the knowledge and skills of all the colleagues on his team. The team have developed many products and versions of Cashbook since, developments that continue to solve complex challenges that our customers face today. No doubt they will continue to do so with the same spirit and devotion that Martin so effortlessly displayed. Martin leaves behind a great legacy at Cashbook, one that all of us here will be eternally grateful to him for. We will all miss him hugely and will always remember him with great respect and fondness. Cashbook would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to all of Martin’s family and friends during this time.
